A Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) is a hand-held mobile computer that can also be used for data collection in the field. Data is inputted directly on the PDA and then transferred to another computer for analysis.

  • Reduces errors/missing data
  • Greatly reduces/eliminates data entry
  • Can be cost-effective over time
  • Enables collection of more data in a shorter time frame
  • Cost of obtaining PDAs may be prohibitive initially
  • Data loss due to malfunctioning device
  • Learning curve associated with initial use of devices
