Risk Behaviors

This section includes instruments and scales that assess various aspects of Risk Behaviors. Areas addressed include: alcohol use, marijuana use, and other drug use, tobacco use ever/past 30 days, commitment to not using alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs, attitudes toward using drugs, lifetime use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, views regarding the harm or risk associated with drug use, and attitudes toward and consequences of alcohol consumption and drug use.

Instrument Description
Alcohol and Other Drug Use
(Middle School )

This 7-item subscale includes three sections: alcohol use, marijuana use, and other drug use.

Alcohol Related Behavior, Attitudes, and Outcomes
(Grades 5-College)

This is a 9-item subscale of the American Drug and Alcohol Survey designed to assess use, attitudes toward, and consequences of alcohol consumption.

Commitment to Not Use Drugs
(Ages 11-18)

This 8-item scale assesses the respondent's commitment to not use alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs.

Consequences of Drug Use
(Grades 5-College)

This 6-item subscale of the American Drug and Alcohol Survey contains questions relating to the consequences of marijuana and other drug use.

Disapproval of Drug Use
(Grades 8-12)

This 16-item scale assesses the respondent's attitudes toward using drugs.

 

Lifetime Use of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs
(Middle & High School)

This 10-item scale asks about lifetime use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

Past Year Use of Drugs
(Grades 5-College)

This 8-item subscale of the American Drug and Alcohol Survey,which contains twenty-four questions about the respondent's use of drugs during the past year.

Perceived Harm of Drug Use
(Grades 8-12)

This 14-item scale assesses the respondent's views regarding the harm or risk associated with drug use.

Tobacco Use
(High School )

This 11-item scales asks about tobacco use ever, as well as, tobacco use in the past 30 days.

Tobacco Use
( Middle School )

This 8 item scale asks about tobacco use ever, as well as tobacco use in the past 30 days.
