Civic Responsibility

This section includes several instruments and scales that assess various aspects of Civic Responsibility and Civic Engagement. Areas addressed include: connection to community, civic awareness, civic efficacy, perceptions of available activities in the community, perceptions of how much members of a community cooperate and assist one another, helping others in need, sense of responsibility or ownership for the greater good, establishment of democratic processes within the school system, and altruistic behaviors.

Instrument Description
Civic Responsibility Survey - Level 2
(Middle School)

This 10 item survey may be used in its entirety as a measure of civic responsibility.  Alternately, there are three clusters of questions.  These include Connection to Community, Civic Awareness, and Civic Efficacy.

Civic Responsibility Survey - Level 3
(High School)

The 24-item survey may be used in its entirety as a measure of civic responsibility. Alternately, there are three clusters of questions with the survey: Connection to Community, Civic Awareness, and Civic Efficacy.

Neighborhood Activities
(Middle and High School)

This 4-item scale assesses perceptions of available activities in the community.

Neighborhood Support
(Middle & High School)

This 8-item scale assesses perceptions of how much members of a community cooperate and assist one another.

Personally Responsible Citizen
(Ages 12-18)

This 6-item scale measures a sense of responsibility or ownership for the greater good.
